Exiles
Karnataka is home to five Tibetan settlements, and I had the privilege of visiting two: Bylakuppe and Mundgod. Bylakuppe, located in the Periyapatna Taluk of Mysore district, is the largest Tibetan settlement outside of Tibet. Mundgod, situated in Teginkoppa, Karnataka, is another significant center for the Tibetan exile community.
During my time in these settlements, I immersed myself in the daily lives of Tibetan monks and nuns, documenting their routines, spiritual practices, and the challenges they face as exiles in India. A particularly profound moment was witnessing His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurate the assembly hall in Mundgod, where he delivered teachings to the Tibetan community.
Through this series of images, I aim to capture the resilience and devotion of Tibetans in exile, highlighting both the rich spiritual traditions they uphold and the restrictions they endure as a displaced community.
