Siddi Portraits

The Siddi are Indians of African descent whose history in India spans more than a thousand years — though it is not a single story. These portraits were made over several years among Siddi communities in Karnataka and Gujarat, during my work with Anti-Slavery International and Minority Rights Group International. They reflect the diversity of Siddi experience while celebrating the resilience, culture and identity of a community whose African heritage forms a distinctive part of India's social fabric.
